Basically we still does not know how to reformat Xiaomi Mi3 using computer, but as far as we know you can download the file source ROM from Xiaomi website and put that file at your external microSD card. However, for Mi3 which does not have external card should copy that downloaded firmware file source using USB cable connected to computer, so computer only use to transfer downloaded firmware file to virtual external microSD at MI3, use updater application to finish reformat or update the firmware.

Hi, please find computer, then connect your Xiaomi Mi3 phone to that computer. Then choose from your Xiaomi Mi3 to connect using MTP. If everything work then your computer will read your phone memory, and copy using computer file manager to proper location inside hard disk. After everything done, then your can do the same thing to restore from computer to your Xioami Mi3 phones.

Hi, doing hard reset or reformat may erase all your data. It is impossible to restore back because your internal memory already wipe and reinstall with fresh factory default operating system. Therefore your phone will give warning before doing hard reset or reformat.
