Where Can We Install WHATSAPP Applications ?

WHATSAPP was initially designed for Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Symbian. But now only the latest version of the operating system can work with Whatsapp, therefore we have to upgrade our smartphone if we still use an old version or when we get an incompatible version. We can also use WHATSAPP from both our smartphone and computer.

How to Install WHATSAPP at computer ?

We can use WHATSAPP from a computer, which is a great feature of this app. We do not need to install any additional applications to chat from our computer. Just use the latest update browser such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Apple Safari, and we can use almost all features from this chatting application.

It can run smoothly on iOS iMac, Microsoft Windows, and Linux/Ubuntu. However, we must first activate WHATSAPP on our smartphone before it can run on a computer, and the chat content will synchronize automatically between the two devices.

To make the steps easy to follow, we will give color differences for the procedure below. Red is for computer steps and Blue is for smartphone steps.

Please do these steps to run WHATSAPP from our computer and smartphone:

  1. At computer: Turn on an Internet Browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, Opera, etc.) and browse to URL https://web.whatsapp.com/, then it will show a QR Code on the Computer Browser screen.
  2. At smartphone: Turn on WHATSAPP (Android, iPhone, Windows Phone, etc.).
  3. At smartphone: From the WHATSAPP menu, please choose WhatsApp Web.
  4. At smartphone: From the WhatsApp Web menu, we can add a connection and our phone will prompt us to scan the QR code from the computer browser (as written in step 1). Ensure our smartphone camera can capture/photo/scan the QR Barcode which is displayed on the computer browser screen.
  5. At computer: After scanning the QR Barcode, we will see WhatsApp Web on the computer browser displaying all of our contacts and chat history.

Whatever we type either from the computer browser or the WHATSAPP app from our smartphone, each device will sync chat content automatically.

Backup & Restore Whatsapp Easily

How to Simply Backup and Restore WHATSAPP Chatting History and WHATSAPP Contact ?

First, we have to understand that all WHATSAPP contacts will sync automatically with our phonebook or smartphone contacts. As long as our phonebook data is correct, then WHATSAPP contact will show on our devices. Currently, there are two options to backup our WHATSAPP chat history data:

  1. Backup and Restore WHATSAPP data at local storage.
  2. Backup and Restore WHATSAPP data at cloud storage.

Performing a hard reset or master format of our smartphone (Android or iPhone) will wipe/remove all chat data as well. Therefore, we must backup all data safely. WHATSAPP by default will perform daily backups automatically at 2:00 AM – 4:00 AM every day. The auto backup time may differ in other WHATSAPP versions.

It will create files in local storage. At Android smartphones, we can find WHATSAPP local files in the /Whatsapp/Databases/ folder. Chat backup files are encrypted safely, but media files (pictures/movies) from chatting are not encrypted and are located in the /Whatsapp/Media/ folder.

How to Backup and Restore WHATSAPP data at Cloud Storage.

On WHATSAPP Android, we can backup and restore all data to Google Drive. On iPhone, data will be backed up to iCloud. All Cloud Backups will follow the free storage availability of each account. If our cloud storage capacity is full, then WHATSAPP backup will not work.

Please ensure our WHATSAPP Backup Cloud Storage is set up correctly from this menu:

  1. Open WHATSAPP on our smartphone.
  2. Go to WHATSAPP menu > Settings > Chats > Chat backup.
  3. Ensure our Google Drive or iCloud backup is set up properly from this screen.
  4. If we want to force a backup, press the BACK UP button and wait until the backup process finishes.
  5. By default, Backup to Cloud storage works only when Wifi is connected, but we can change this from the menu for backup at any connection. Go to WHATSAPP menu > Settings > Chats > Chat backup > Back up over: choose Wi-fi or Wifi or cellular.

How to Restore WHATSAPP cloud backup to our Android or iPhone ?

WHATSAPP tries to provide an easy process for restoring from cloud storage. When we have done a hard reset or master format or have a new smartphone, we need to sign in with our Google account or iCloud account. Then follow these steps:

  1. Turn on our smartphone.
  2. Download the WHATSAPP app from the Google Play Store or App Store.
  3. Register our phone number with the WHATSAPP app.
  4. It will automatically find the cloud backup related to step 3.
  5. WHATSAPP will prompt us to restore once it finds a cloud backup.

How to Restore WHATSAPP local files  to our Android ?

These steps are tricky for some conditions because we need to copy old backup files and put them in the new Android internal storage /Whatsapp/Databases/. Then follow these steps:

  1. Download the WHATSAPP app from the Google Play Store.
  2. Register our phone number with the WHATSAPP app.
  3. WHATSAPP will prompt us to restore from local storage backup when it finds backup files in the /Whatsapp/Databases/ internal folder.

New Update for Android Whatsapp Backup to Google Drive Is Unlimited

When we created this information, Whatsapp and Google had a new agreement that all Whatsapp users who back up their chat and photo-video to Google Drive will not count towards their personal storage limit (usually, by default, we get 15 GB of free storage for all Google data, including email, files, and some others).

Therefore, if we have many group chats and photos/videos that need backup to Google Drive, we will get unlimited backup storage as long as we use an Android smartphone. Please note, for all users who never connect to Google Drive for Whatsapp backup within 1 year, then the backup data will be removed from Google Drive servers automatically.

FAQ of Whatsapp Backup & Restore:

  • Why Whatsapp Not Restoring Backup?

This problem can happen due to several causes. First, because we are not using the same phone number, as Whatsapp uses the phone number to ensure our backup or restore works. Second, maybe we have never backed up any data either to cloud backup or offline backup at storage, therefore Whatsapp will not restore any backup files to our Whatsapp. Whatsapp restore is not working on our phone.

MORE NEW FUNCTIONS UPDATE at WHATSAPP:

New Dark Mode at Whatsapp:

How to Use Dark Mode at Whatsapp ?

Please check that our Whatsapp version is above 2.20.30+. Not all users can use this function because Whatsapp rolls it out gradually based on version and country release. We can check it out inside the Whatsapp menu:

  1. Open Whatsapp application.
  2. Click on Settings menu.
  3. Click Chats.
  4. Click Theme.
  5. Activate Dark.
  6. Finish, and our Whatsapp is ready to use with Dark mode.

Please note, all information above may have different steps or procedures depending on WHATSAPP versions. This app is always getting new upgrades to improve features.
